Osinbajo Presides Over FEC In Buhari’s Absence

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is currently presiding over this week’s Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Wednesday’s meeting, which began a few minutes past 10:00 am, is the Council’s antepenultimate before the inauguration of a new president on May 29, 2023.

Ministers of Special Duties, George Akume, and Communication and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, said the opening Christian and Muslim prayers, respectively.

Present at the FEC meeting is the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; the Head of Civil Service, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.

Also present are the Ministers of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Science and Technology, Olorunimbe Mamora; Finance, Zainab Ahmed; Justice, Abubakar Malami, Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouq; Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo; Agriculture, Mohammed Abubakar; Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire; Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyema; Sports, Sunday Dare, Aviation, Hadi Sirika, Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi; Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige and FCT, Mohammed Bello.

The Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Mrs Gbemisola Saraki, is also present.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari is away in London, the United Kingdom, where he will spend an additional week undergoing dental treatment.

Buhari “will remain in London, the United Kingdom, for an additional week, at the behest of his Dentist, who has started attending to him,” a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, revealed late Tuesday.

Adesina explained that the Specialist requires to see the President in another five days for a procedure already commenced.

Buhari, who left for the UK last Wednesday to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III, was expected back in the country early this week.

The President joined other world leaders to attend the coronation on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
