Nigeria Air scandal Sirika

The camp of former President Muhammadu Buhari is fighting back furiously after the former government was called out even by its own agents of foisting fraud on the country through the formation of Nigeria Air as a national carrier.

GWG.ng reports that the acting managing director of the airline still in formation, Captain Dapo Olumide had while appearing before the Senate Committee on Aviation on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, confirmed that the aircraft branded as Nigeria Air was actually chartered from Ethiopian Airlines.

The assertions among others also caused the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation to dub Nigeria Air as a fraud with a call on President Bola Tinubu to abrogate the deal masterminded by the Buhari administration through the immediate past aviation minister, Haidi Sirika.

With the insinuation that the Buhari administration foisted Nigeria Air as a fraud on the country going viral, one of the former administration’s linchpins, Bashir Ahmad who served as special assistant to the president on social media came out to debunk the claims of fraud.

In a Twitter on Tuesday morning, he said the project which had consumed billions of naira over the past four years was not a fraud, saying that the Ministry of Aviation has made significant progress in bringing the project to completion.

His words echoed the claims of Sirika who had claimed that the airline would take off before the exit of the Buhari administration.

Reacting to the claims of fraud in the execution of Nigeria Air, he said:

“Nigeria Air is NOT a fraud, the Aviation Ministry has made a significant progress towards its realization. Branding unveiled, partnerships and agreements signed, most of the operational certificates issued, and operational offices opened. Nigeria Air will fly to make Nigeria proud.”
