Suspense Trails Former Minister’s Governorship Bid After Oba Ewuare’s Snub

Immediate former minister of National Planning, Prince Clem Agba is in suspense after the royal snub meted to him when he visited the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II to inform him of the end of his ministerial assignment.

The Oba had expressed “total disappointment“ over what he described as the “lopsided representation“ by Prince Agba while he was a minister.

In a statement in Benin by Mr Iguobaro Osaigbovo, the Chief Press Secretary to the Oba, the king noted that while in office the ex-minister failed to extend ministerial benefits to Edo South and Edo Central Senatorial Districts.

Oba Ewuare expressed disappointment while responding to the minister who was on a thank-you-visit to the palace for the role it played in his appointment as a minister by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Oba Ewuare noted that having benefited from the goodwill that led to his appointment, Agba should have reciprocated the kind gesture to the entire three senatorial zones of the state, rather than engaged in “politics of disintegration“.

Oba Ewuare advised all Edo indigenes to use their good offices to attract development to the state and to better the lots of the people.

He said the erstwhile Minister of Budget and Planning performed “below expectation“.

The royal indictment has put Prince Agba in a quandary as he is said to be wary as not to be seen publicly replying the Oba whether rightly or wrongly.

It was gathered that the indictment may have put suspense on the governorship aspiration of the former minister ahead of the forthcoming 2024 governorship election.

It is also being alleged that Agba’s governorship aspiration may not get the favourable applause of palace insiders who claim that the former minister is married to a sister of the incumbent governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki given the not very cordial relationship between the palace and the governor.

Agba is believed to be the favourable candidate of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the penultimate governor of Edo State who in his time had a very warm relationship with the Benin Royal Palace.
