Governor Umo Eno who roused the populace in Akwa Ibom with his post-election pledge of cheering up the productive base with happy hour moments has ironically been faced with the reality of comforting the population in the moment of grief.
The moment for consolation came after the death of five family members who died in a road crash while they were returning from a church conference in Lagos.
The death of the five family members from Eket Town sent inconsolable grief to not only the affected family but to many people around the state who were touched with the impact of a family losing five members at the same time.
The accident was said to have occurred along Ovia River road in Edo State along the Benin-Asaba Expressway while the five were returning from a conference organised by the Salvation Army Church in Lagos.
Pastor Eno showed himself as comforter in chief as he expressed the deep sadness of the Government and people of the State over the tragic auto crash.
In a message of condolence released by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, and addressed to Commissioner Daniel Kasuso, Territorial Commander and National Leader of The Salvation Army, Nigeria, Governor Eno expressed “sadness over the tragic incident that claimed the lives of many of our sons and daughters while coming back from a church engagement in Lagos.
“This tragic incident is even more painful as most of the victims involved were from close- knit families. My heart goes out to all those directly affected by this unfortunate incident
“We stand ready to support the church at this hour of grief and bereavement.
“ May the souls of the departed rest in peace. Amen,” Udoh quoted Governor Eno as saying in his message of comfort to the citizenry and relatives of the deceased.
