New Governor Under Fire Over Car Deal

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was on Wednesday morning under fire on social media over the car deal with Hyundai that led to the supply of at least eight new units of the company’s vehicles provided for the security services in the state.

Despite the governor’s apparent good wishes, many were not pleased with his decision to overlook the local Innoson brand for the foreign one. Many Twitter users took note of the fact that the Gombe State Government recently purchased Innoson vehicles and wondered why Innoson which has production facilities in Enugu was overlooked.

GWG.ng reports that the assertions on Twitter also overlooked the fact that Hyundai is also locally assembled with production facilities in the former Volkswagen of Nigeria, VON production facilities at Ojo, Lagos.

Twitter user, NEFERTITI tweeting at firstladyship brought the issue to bear following the governor’s announcement of the deal.

She tweeted thus:

At a time when Gombe State governor patronized Innoson Motors, Enugu state governor chose Hyundai (a South Korea brand). Nigeria does not have a revenue problem. Nigeria has spending problem. Peter Mba went for Hyundai because you cannot pad the budget on Innoson Brand.

The Governor of Enugu State is a showman. He governs his state on social media. That man enjoys the hype & the razzmatazz. He bought 8 pieces of Hyundai & rushed to Twitter to receive accolades. He is an Igbo man who chose a South Korea brand over his own brother; Innoson Motors.

Hyundai is not built for the terrible roads in Nigeria. Innoson motors are stronger, the parts are readily available as well. Innoson Nnewi is closer to Enugu; after sales services won’t be an issue. Modern-day policing are driven by SUVs, not sedan cars.
