New Governor Under Fire Over Car Deal

Published

on

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State was on Wednesday morning under fire on social media over the car deal with Hyundai that led to the supply of at least eight new units of the company’s vehicles provided for the security services in the state.

Despite the governor’s apparent good wishes, many were not pleased with his decision to overlook the local Innoson brand for the foreign one. Many Twitter users took note of the fact that the Gombe State Government recently purchased Innoson vehicles and wondered why Innoson which has production facilities in Enugu was overlooked.

GWG.ng reports that the assertions on Twitter also overlooked the fact that Hyundai is also locally assembled with production facilities in the former Volkswagen of Nigeria, VON production facilities at Ojo, Lagos.

Twitter user, NEFERTITI tweeting at firstladyship brought the issue to bear following the governor’s announcement of the deal.

She tweeted thus:

At a time when Gombe State governor patronized Innoson Motors, Enugu state governor chose Hyundai (a South Korea brand). Nigeria does not have a revenue problem. Nigeria has spending problem. Peter Mba went for Hyundai because you cannot pad the budget on Innoson Brand.

NEFERTITI @firstladyship

The Governor of Enugu State is a showman. He governs his state on social media. That man enjoys the hype & the razzmatazz. He bought 8 pieces of Hyundai & rushed to Twitter to receive accolades. He is an Igbo man who chose a South Korea brand over his own brother; Innoson Motors.

NEFERTITI @firstladyship

Hyundai is not built for the terrible roads in Nigeria. Innoson motors are stronger, the parts are readily available as well. Innoson Nnewi is closer to Enugu; after sales services won’t be an issue. Modern-day policing are driven by SUVs, not sedan cars.

Responding to the car deal orchestrated by the Mbah government, other twitter users replied thus:

Peter mbah is still the best man for the job

Harry’O’Fido of Milan @harryofido

Acting Governor please

Àmir Áremò @AremoAmir

Very horrible decision to ignore our own local car manufacturing brand. Anyway he is on borrowed time. So we wont be bothered yet. But we need to watch his spending so he does not create more problems for the man the people voted for.

Peter Mbah is a fake imitation of good governance. He’s only on Twitter and he does nothing on the ground. By now, he should have awarded the Obollo/Opi/Nintmile road to open up biz in that axis, he does nothing. Chijioke Edoga won that election but let Mbah deal wt NYSC first.

Nigeria’s Gadfly @Naughti_awol

I said same thing. At a time even Gombe State governor patronized Innoson for his inauguration parade vehicle, Peter Mbah chose to ignore Innoson and opted for Hyundai. Now, don’t forget that Innoson has a factory in Enugu and pays tax to Enugu. The man bu Otondo .

Nneka Okeke @UNSHAKEABLEN

The man is a placeholder, the rightful occupant of the seat will soon take over.

Comedian Dedejesus @Kingdavidmark

He’s on borrowed time so he’s just trying to get public sympathy, but a sensible person would have chosen a local brand to get even more sympathy

Ògbeni Jack Sparrow @Eniwaiyedaran85

The ones wey patronize Innoson una commend them? Look at the state governors that patronized him and compare them with the patronage from South East governors.

Even Buhari’s administration was his customer daada ni

Izi Gab @IziGab1

Very unfortunate

Edisonokojie @Edisonokojie1

I heard that financial institutions have refused to give him loan. They are all waiting for the court judgement..
