Banana Island Belonged To My Father- Nigerian-American Man Claims
Banana Island, a well-known upscale neighborhood in Lagos state, presently the home of Nigeria’s multi-billionaires is where Remi Adeleke, a Nigerian-American, claims his father formerly lived before the Nigerian government “stole” it.
Remi, now a filmmaker practising his trade in the United States made the assertion on July 4th in a post on twitter that has since gone viral.
Remi stated on Twitter that his father left Nigeria in his late teens to pursue his studies in the UK. He claimed that after completing his schooling, which included a master’s degree, his father traveled to Nigeria with the intention of building an “African Wall Street/World Trade Center” there.
He claimed that up until 1987, when the Nigerian government “illegally took possession of his father’s assets,” including his manmade island, now known as “Banana Island,” he had lived happily.
He revealed that his father mysteriously passed away while battling to reclaim his properties. Remi claimed that his family’s financial situation changed, forcing his mother to relocate him and his brother to the United States, where they received a higher education and had more prospects for a better life.
GWG.ng reports that with Banana Island now the playground of Nigeria’s super rich, the prospects of Remi ever claiming the island for his family looks a distinct probability.
