Adamu Lukman go

The National Vice Chairman, Northwest, of the All Progressives Congress, APC Comrade Salihu Lukman has said that the success of the party’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket has made it incumbent for the national chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu to go.

GWG.ng reports that Lukman who is championing the removal of Adamu as national chairman of the APC upon allegations of lack of accountability had earlier accused him of failing to account for the N30 billion mobilized from the sale of nomination forms.

However, speaking on Arise News Television late on Wednesday disclosed that the unaccounted funds could be as much as N5 billion given what he claimed as money inherited from the Mai Mala Buni led caretaker committee.

Asked on his position on the Adamu Must Go campaign within the APC, Lukman said:

“Look, I am not hiding that. I started making that call (for Adamu’s removal) immediately after the election because we contested election on a Muslim-Muslim ticket and it was purely an electoral strategy.

“Now after winning the election and if we want to ensure that the Asiwaju government takes off on a smooth scale, we needed to adjust and open up in such a way that the diversity of this country is recognized and respected.

“It was on that basis that I started campaigning that the choices for leadership of the National Assembly has to take the need to respect diversity. It was on that basis that I said that I think the national chairman should make the sacrifice so that a Christian national chairman from the same North Central should come in. That was immediately after the election.

“Now, from all that has happened instead of engaging in debate around the issue, I have been condemned. For me what that means is that we are having two critical leaders, the national chairman and the national secretary who are distant from the progressive tradition. Progressive tradition is about confronting challenges and confronting our problems. Instead of doing that, they are in denial,” Lukman said in reiterating his position on the agitation for Adamu to go as national chairman of the APC.
