The crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC worsened on Wednesday after the national vice-chairman, Northwest, Salihu Mohammed Lukman accused the national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu of denying Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and other election candidates of financial support despite collecting N30 billion from the sale of nomination forms.

Lukman spoke at a press conference in Abuja following retorts from Adamu and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore to earlier criticisms hurled at them by Lukman. Omisore had described him as the only black sheep in the executive.

But responding on Wednesday, Lukman inferred that Adamu had a secret agenda for the party members to fail through withholding funding, and in itself fueling questions as to who between Tinubu and Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar the national chairman really wanted to win the election.

GWG.ng reports that Adamu had on Arise News Television on Tuesday night admitted that though he pronounced Senator Ahmad Lawan as the party’s preferred candidate he subsequently went out on his way to campaign for Tinubu after the presidential convention.

However, retorting at a press conference in Abuja, Sulieman questioned Adamu’s commitment to the party’s candidates including Tinubu ahead of the election bringing to the fore whispers here and there that Adamu would have preferred Atiku as winner to his own candidate, Tinubu.

While noting that the party realized an estimated N30 billion from the sale of nomination forms which he said ordinarily should go to support the candidates, Lukman said that that was not the case opening another twist to the crisis in the APC.

He also questioned the fact that the national chairman submitted a budget to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC without the approval of the National Executive Committee, NEC which ordinarily should be the approving authority of the party’s budget.

“Talking of national budget, we are just coming out of elections whereby we were not able to sustain past precedence. What was the past precedence? Under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in 2019, every candidate of the party received something from the National Secretariat. In this last election, no candidate of the party received a dime from the party.

“Talking of finances, in our constitution the NEC is supposed to approve some form of sharing formula. I am aware that each state chapter has received about N20 million out of the N30 billion. Put together, that is about N700 million less than a billion which is less than 3 percent of the total income that has been earned. Yet we want to sweep this under the carpet. We are having states, zonal, local councils and ward levels who are left on their own. The whole question of funding of the party has not been addressed.”

On whether the presidential candidate, Tinubu got any amount from the N30 billion raised, Lukman said:

“He (Tinubu) didn’t get a dime from the party. I am making this public. Let them challenge me and contradict me,” a disclosure that is bound to further escalate the crisis between Lukman and Adamu over the future of the APC.
