Senator Abubakar Kyari, the deputy national chairman, North, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to step in as the new national chairman of the ruling party at a meeting of the National Working Committee that commenced about midday, today, Monday GWG.ng reports.

He is, however, to act in acting capacity pending the ratification by the National Executive Committee, NEC of the party at a meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

It was gathered that the NWC has summoned a meeting of the party’s management committee for Monday following last Sunday’s unceremonious resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as national chairman and of Senator Iyiola Omisore as national secretary.

The meeting of the NWC is to ratify the elevation of Kyari as the new national chairman ahead of the National Executive Committee, NEC meeting that is scheduled for Wednesday.

GWG.ng reports that Adamu was to be sacked at the NEC meeting but had to cave in as reasoning prevailed on him to resign to avoid what could have been a cavalier dismissal.

While the certainty of Kyari taking over from Adamu as the new national chairman is assured, GWG.ng reports that there is uncertainty as to who would emerge as national secretary of the APC given the claim by party stakeholders from the Southeast that the position should go to the region.

The argument of the Southeast is that the position was originally meant for the Southeast but was hijacked to give it to Omisore.

The new national chairman of the APC was like Adamu, a senator before his emergence as deputy national chairman.
