The nomination of an Adams Oshiomhole protegee in the person of Engineer Abubakar Momoh as the ministerial nominee from Edo State is upsetting the political permutations ahead of the 2024 governorship election, GWG.ng reports.

Momoh who has identified with all the major political parties recently returned from the Social Democratic Party, SDP to the All Progressives Congress, APC. His nomination is believed to have been paved by Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the immediate past governor of the state and penultimate national chairman of the APC.

Oshiomhole is also believed to have become the number one linkman of President Bola Tinubu in Edo State, having taken the ascendence over Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC’s immediate past governorship candidate and long-time associate of the Tinubus.

Momoh who is Etsako like Oshiomhole, emerged as the nominee ahead of others that were penciled down notably, Ize-Iyamu and Senator Oserheinmen Osunbor.

The emergence of Momoh from Edo North according to some political actors in the state may have put paid to the governorship aspiration of those from Edo North. The easy argument that is already being worked against Edo North is that the region cannot produce governor and minister at the same time.

GWG.ng reports that Oshiomhole’s political godson, Prince Clem Agba who had been positioning for the battle will be particularly affected in the APC.

Agba’s aspiration was particularly given a major blow when he paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II following his tour of duty as minister and the royal monarch rebuked him over his discrimination of projects against other sections of the state.

Another major political actor bound to be affected is the deputy governor, Hon Philip Shaibu whose long-time dream to be governor is also bound to be affected by the ministerial nomination of his kinsman.

A political actor from Edo South told GWG.ng that Oshiomhole may have read from the statement of the monarch the opposition that is bound to resonate against Agba and hence the calculated move to position another ally from outside Edo North for the governorship.

Who that person is not known but the feeling among Benin political actors is that the emergence of Momoh from Edo North as the ministerial nominee, Oshiomhole may have freed Edo South with the majority of the population to put forward its case for the governorship.

The argument then boils down to the capacity of Edo Central which is angling for the office to convince Edo South to allow it have a bite.
