Nigeria has entered the elimination stage of the Women’s World Cup after the Super Falcons were held to a goalless draw in their last Group B match by Ireland.

Nigeria finished second in the group after Australia whitewashed Canada 4-0 in their own match.

The Super Falcons who have not beaten a European team since 1999 when the Falcons beat Denmark were on song a couple of times but were held down and the Irish goalkeeper did a yeoman job stopping a header from Kanu that was on its way into the net.

GWG.ng reports that Nigeria has suffered six defeats in the last eight encounters with European teams.

Nigeria becomes the first African country to keep two clean sheets in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup tournament. Even more, itis the fifth clean sheet that Nigeria has kept in about 29 matches in the Women’s world Cup tournaments.

It is also the third time in nine appearances that Nigeria has qualified for the elimination stage in the Women’s World Cup.
