Germany Women's World Cup

The number two ranked team, Germany for the first time failed to qualify for the elimination stage after they failed to beat Korea in their last group game in the Women’s World Cup in Brisbane, Australia.

GWG.ng reports that Germany failed to qualify after Morocco, the team that the German girls loaded 6-0 in the group’s opening game qualified along with Columbia.

Korea and Germany were the two teams that failed to qualify. Germany and Korea each needed to beat the other with the hope that Columbia beat Morocco. However, in the end, Morocco which entered the last group game on Thursday with three points beat Columbia 1-0 in Perth, ensuring that the two teams garnered six points apiece leaving Germany with four points and Korea with one point.

The development is one bound to ricochet across Germany which entered the tournament as the top European team and the world’s second-best.

GWG.ng reports that with Morocco qualifying for the knockout phase, three African countries have now entered the knockout stage. Morocco which is playing in the tournament for the first time joins Nigeria and South Africa in the knockout phase of the tournament.

One tweeter user mocked Germany, over its ouster from the Women’s World Cup saying, “what does it benefit you to score six goals against Morocco and leave the tournament before them?”
