Outrage is growing among senators over the public revelation of a holiday token disbursed to senators as announced by the president of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Monday, August 7, 2023.

GWG.ng had reported on a viral video in which Akpabio had announced as senators rounded up the ministerial screening on Monday that a token had been disbursed to all senators for their holiday.

Multiple sources in the Senate confirmed to GWG.ng that the amount sent to the senators was N2 million each, an amount that has raised concern among many senators given the negative attraction the disbursement has brought to them.

He had said: “As soon as Senator Umahi takes his oath of office, we shall rearrange the office of the leadership.”

“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly,” he said.

However, the disclosure of the holiday token has further raised angst among the populace against the political leadership of the country and some senators are not happy with Akpabio over the development.

Senators were particularly displeased with the disclosure of the package.

“He should have disclosed the amount. You can see my credit alert it was just N2m and we received it only yesterday,” one  senator cried hoax over the phone.

“Do you know how much I send daily to my constituency? Now with this disclosure people have been calling me from everywhere for their share.”

Several other Senate sources disclosed this.

A Senate staffer speaking on the condition of anonymity saw nothing wrong with the disbursement saying that it was something that ordinarily should not be a cause for concern but for the revelation.
