Music Journalist Joey Akan Tackles Spyro Over Criticisms Of Immoral Lyrics

Published

on

Music journalist Joey Akan has criticized singer Spyro for condemning the lyrics of secular music artistes.

In a recent podcast, Spyro took aim at singer Shallipopi’s lyrics, accusing them of promoting fraudulent behavior. Spyro emphasized the importance of impactful song lyrics.

Responding to Spyro’s comments, Joey, using his online handle, called out Spyro’s apparent hypocrisy. Joey pointed out that Spyro earns from collaborating with secular artistes and being a part of the secular music industry, while simultaneously criticizing his colleagues and promoting his faith.

Joey highlighted that Spyro’s hit song involved collaborating with Tiwa Savage, a mainstream artiste, instead of fellow faith-based musicians like Chioma Jesus and Dunsin Onyekan. Additionally, Joey noted that Spyro is signed to a secular record label and performs at secular events, including one for an alcoholic brand.

Furthermore, Joey criticized Spyro for collaborating with DJ Neptune and Iyanya, both prominent figures in secular music. He also pointed out Spyro’s avoidance of gospel podcasts while actively seeking exposure on secular platforms.

Joey concluded by denouncing Spyro’s contradictory stance of claiming to be “for Jesus” while profiting from and engaging with the secular music industry. He labeled Spyro’s actions as hypocrisy and accused him of promoting his faith while benefiting from secular avenues.

GWG.ng reports that Joey, however, did not touch on the context of the assertions by Spyro of artistes promoting fraudulent behaviour through their lyrics.
