In the midst of the ongoing controversy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s academic credentials, a surprising turn of events occurred on Wednesday, September 13, when a man named Durojaiye Ogunsanya claimed to be Tinubu’s classmate at Chicago State University in the United States.

According to Ogunsanya, they both graduated from the same department in 1979, and Tinubu even held the position of President of the Accounting Society before their departure from the institution.

This revelation came as opposition parties continued to challenge Tinubu’s educational background, a topic that had been a point of contention long before the 2023 election that ultimately saw Tinubu ascend to the presidency of Nigeria.

Bashir Ahmad, the former aide to President Buhari, took to social media to share the news, stating, “A public affairs analyst, Mr. Durojaiye Ogunsanya, has confirmed that he was a classmate of President Bola Tinubu at Chicago State University in the United States.”

However, the claim immediately sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many expressing skepticism and suspicion regarding Ogunsanya’s assertion on being Tinubu’s classmate at Chicago State University.

Some of the comments under Ahmad’s post included:

“Is a degree a requirement to being a president in Nigeria? 🤔”

“Let us put both of them in separate rooms and ask them questions like… who was your lecturer in so-and-so class…. shall we?”

“And they never took a picture together?”

“We kindly request their picture together while in Chicago. Thank you.”

“How much did he get paid to tell such lies?”

“I will advise him to come on AriseTv morning show. I want to check something.”

“A paid ACTOR by APC.”
“He just appeared on the day of the court session in Chicago.”

As the nation watches with bated breath, the controversy surrounding President Tinubu’s academic records continues to deepen, with Ogunsanya’s claims only serving to fan the flames of doubt among those who remain unconvinced. The question of whether academic credentials are a prerequisite for leadership in Nigeria remains at the forefront of public discourse, leaving the nation divided and uncertain about its leader’s past.
