Joy Turns To Anxiety In Gaza As Israeli Deaths Cross 500
More than 500 Israelis were killed from the land, sea and air attacks launched by Hamas against Israel multiple sources have reported.
GWG.ng, however, reports that the mounting death toll on the Israeli side compared to the 313 on the Palestinian side had raised a feeling of euphoria on the part of supporters of Hamas which, however, is now being subdued by the increasing pains of retribution.
Israel has already cut off electricity, fuel and other supplies to Gaza while internet service in the enclave has collapsed.
BBC’s Rushdi Abu Alouf reporting on the suspense within Gaza following the attacks says:
I’ve been driving through central Gaza City, where the central main street is blocked by rubble from a building that was brought down.
One of the buildings destroyed is a significant hub for internet providers, so several parts of the Gaza Strip haven’t had internet since last night.
Communication is hard, but I spoke to people yesterday – some were fleeing their homes.
Most of the people I met had mixed feelings.
Yesterday brought a moment of celebration for some Palestinians, who said Hamas was taking revenge for Israeli attacks. But on the other hand people here are worried any war will last for a very long time.
Israel has decided to cut electricity, fuel and goods supplies into Gaza and local people are really worried about the humanitarian situation.
All the shops are closed in the main street close to where I am now, except a few bakeries, and people have been queueing to stock up because they believe this war will drag on.
GWG.ng reports that the rising number of Israelis killed in the war with Hamas is bound to be a focus of inquiry in the immediate future.
