Akwa Ibom Disowns Business Support Scam In Umo Eno’s Name
The Akwa Ibom State Government has washed its hands off a scheme it describes as a scam in which Governor Umo Eno was portrayed as offering N150,000 as support to businesses in the state.
Ekerete Udoh, Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, washed off the hands of the government from the scheme in a statement on Wednesday.
In a statement made available to GWG.ng, he said:
“Our (State Government’s) attention has been drawn to some postings on the social media, especially Facebook, where a fake account purportedly owned by Pastor Umo Eno, Governor, Akwa Ibom State, is sending out notices promising to support businesses to the tone of 150 thousand Naira.
“In the said fake posting, members of the public were advised to contact a certain Mr. Bishop Godwin, who had also supplied a contact phone number.
“We wish to advise members of the public that this is the handiwork of scammers as there is no such initiative in existence neither is one being contemplated.
“While law enforcement agents are on the trail of the man behind the scam, Mr. Bishop Godwin, members of the public are advised to ignore and dismiss this obvious scam,” the statement said in disowning any link to Governor Umo Eno.
