Obafemi Awolowo University based cleric and don, Professor Sunday Isehunwa has cautioned Christians against being lone rangers in the face of the challenging times facing the world.
Delivering the sermon at the Sunday Service of the Hospital Chapel, National Hospital Abuja on Sunday, November 5, 2023, Professor Isehunwa said that God made preparations for His children ahead of the challenging times now facing the world. He thus charged that Christians should not allow the circumstances of the world to make them redesign the scope God has given them or to leave His presence.
Speaking on the topic, “…Speak to the Children of Israel so that they go forward,” drawn from the quarter’s theme of Active Faith, Prof Isehunwa urged Christians to proceed in faith in the original purpose and plans given to them by God Almighty.
While urging the congregation to build their faith, he nevertheless cautioned his audience against negative thoughts which he said help to kill the faith of Christians.
Drawing from the biblical passage Hebrews 10:32-39 among other scriptural references, the don urged his audience to build up the reservoir of patience in their walk with God.
He said:
“Be patient with God. Don’t give up hope, be expectant. Be ready to take practical steps of faith because the just shall live by faith. Living by faith starts with your thoughts, your thinking. Your thinking will grow to affect your attitude and it will affect your actions.”
“In challenging times, going back to the world must not be an option, going back to your old lifestyle when you were an unbeliever, in marriage, divorce is not an option. Draw, the lines, the boundary you cannot cross, it has to be forward ever!”
While charging the brethren to keep their eyes on the ultimate goal of Heaven, told the congregation that there were temporary goals on earth as he urged them not to give up on the testimonies that God wants to fetch out from their lives.
Prof Isehunwa who interspersed his message with several testimonies of how the brethren in contemporary times overcame, urged his hearers to “learn to reflect on God’s faithfulness in the past. Remember former days, I have been through this before, we have survived for some of us without cash for many days.
“I have been through this before there is nothing new. Learn to reflect on the faithfulness of God. The God who did it yesterday will do it again today and certainly do it tomorrow.”
Tasking his audience not to be lone rangers in the walk of faith, he added:
“During challenging times walk with people of like mind, network. Be companion of people of faith, not people who will shout, aya”
“It is not good to be a lone ranger as a Christian. Have mentors, people you can connect with, people who can pray and can encourage you. Paul mentioned of his companions.”
