MTN explain Network outage

Expressions of joy by MTN subscribers in Nigeria of a bonanza from the company that may have led to the cancellation of their debts to the company have been disowned by the company which it blamed on a system glitch.

MTN Nigeria has formally confirmed that the debt cancellation messages that swept through the network on Saturday were a result of a system glitch.

The company has as such alerted its subscribers that the accurate balances of all customers would be reflected once the glitch is rectified.

The company in an unsigned statement made available to GWG.ng wrote:

MTN Nigeria Communications Plc can confirm a system glitch impacting balance enquiries. As a result, some customers may receive error messages showing that their balances have been cleared. This is not the case and all balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved.

Our engineers are currently working to ensure this.

Please accept our apologies. We regret the inconvenience.

GWG.ng reports that some people are bound to raise concern that the system glitch came on election day and would remember the technical glitch that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC said affected its system during the last presidential election and stopped the uploading of results on the IrEV portal on election day on February 25.
