Igbinedion’s Daughter, Omosede Under Pressure To Join Edo Gov’ship

Barrister Omosede Igbinedion is facing mounting pressure to participate in the forthcoming gubernatorial race in Edo State, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as her potential platform.

Chieftains of the PDP hailing from various senatorial districts within the state have reportedly initiated discussions with the former lawmaker, urging her to consider joining the race. Recognizing her influence and potential candidacy, these PDP leaders are said to be planning an additional meeting to further strengthen their appeal.

One significant factor contributing to the push for Barr. Igbinedion’s candidacy is what her supporters see as her commendable track record during her tenure in the House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. PDP chieftains see her as a strong contender and a promising candidate to represent the party in the upcoming primary election.

The PDP chieftains were said to have analysed the outcome of the last National Assembly elections and saw that Barr. Igbinedion topped all of the party’s candidates that contested the elections in Edo South senatorial district of the State.

According to one of the PDP elders, “Barr. Omosede Igbinedion needs no introduction to political dynamics in Edo State. She is the scion of Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin and has served in the House of Representatives between 2015 and 2019. Barr. Igbinedion has remained a strong member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Edo State.

“We do not care if outgoing Governor, Godwin Obaseki is from Edo South as Igbinedion but who can win the election for our party. The Governor, himself, did not support power rotation in the last presidential election. He supported Atiku.

“Barr. Igbinedion is our best choice of winning the governorship election. We are going to force her into the race. We will mobilise and pay for her nomination form.”
