General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye's Demise

Major General Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye (rtd), the former military governor of the erstwhile Ondo State, has passed away. His demise occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, due to a heart attack.

General Opaleye (rtd) served as the military governor of the old Ondo State, predating the creation of the current Ekiti State, from August 1986 to December 1987, during the tenure of Military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida. He succeeded the late Admiral Mike Akhigbe and later handed over the reins to Commodore Olabode George.

Until his untimely death on November 18, 2023, General Opaleye held the distinguished title of Balogun Erunmu of Owu in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The nation mourns the loss of a military leader who played a significant role in the governance of the region.
