Super Eagles legend, Vincent Enyeama, revealed that he distanced himself from Nigerian football for an extended period due to what he perceived as unfair treatment during his exit from the national team. In an interview with Hotsportsng, the former Lille goalkeeper explained his decision to disengage, citing feelings of being treated unfavorably.

Enyeama shared, “I’ve not been following Nigerian football since the day I left the national team; with due respect, I was treated like a piece of used material. So I put up a block between me and the national team. It’s now that I’m beginning to follow what is going on, but I put a stop to watching the national team because I was deeply hurt.”

He emphasized that the sense of hurt led him to distance himself from Super Eagles activities, only recently resuming interest in their games. Enyeama expressed hesitancy in commenting on the current state of the national team’s goalkeeping department due to his detached observation.

In the interview, Enyeama reflected on some memorable moments of his career, highlighting winning the AFCON in 2013 and securing consecutive titles with Enyimba in 2003 and 2004. Despite the positive memories, his past experiences influenced his decision to withdraw from actively following Nigerian football.
