Former Nigeria Coach Demands Compulsory Eye Test For Eagles Keeper, Uzoho

The ongoing struggles of Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, continue to bewilder many Nigerians, witnessing the national team’s gradual decline into a struggling side.

“Nigeria was absent at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup when the Super Eagles failed to beat Ghana in Abuja in April 2022,” resulting in the team missing out on the global football spectacle. In that crucial match, Uzoho, in goal, faced criticism as a long-range shot from Thomas Partey found the net.

Despite a subsequent draw, the Super Eagles needed a victory over the Black Stars for World Cup qualification. Disheartened by Nigeria’s absence at the Qatar event, doubts linger among Nigerians regarding the team’s prospects for the 2026 World Cup, fueled by the Super Eagles’ lackluster performances in the ongoing qualifiers.

Despite being favorites in a group with lower-ranked teams like Lesotho, Rwanda, Benin, and South Africa, the Eagles have yet to secure a win after two rounds. The team managed 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe, both instances marked by goalkeeper errors leading to goals.

Expressing concern, former Nigeria international and ex-assistant coach of the U23 Olympic Eagles, Etta Egbe, called on the Nigeria Football Federation to conduct an eye test for Francis Uzoho to evaluate his visibility. Egbe questioned Uzoho’s concession of a goal from a 35-yard free kick, deeming it “unforgivable” and suggesting the need for an eye examination. Recalling Uzoho’s role in denying Nigeria a spot in Qatar 2022, Egbe emphasized the urgency for corrective action, also highlighting the defensive challenges faced by the Super Eagles.
