How Wife Mistakenly Led Gunmen To Kill PDP Chairman

Yet to be identified gunmen have assassinated Hon Smith Chiedoziem Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman for Ife/Akpodim/Chokoneze Ward in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area of Imo State.

The tragic incident unfolded on Thursday evening in Anyanwu’s country home in Ezinihitte Mbaise.

The gunmen who arrived on a motorbike, inquired about Anyanwu’s whereabouts from his wife. An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, described the chilling scene:

“The two men rode in on a bike and asked his wife about her husband’s whereabouts, and she pointed towards the compound. They just went there and shot him point-blank, waited for some seconds before zooming off.”

The first gunshot led to the dispersion of passers-by, leaving the assailants without resistance for their escape. The community is now in panic and engulfed in fear of potential future attacks.

Lancelot Obiaku, the Director General of the PDP’s New Media Centre, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that panic and apprehension have gripped the community, and the opposition party is in mourning.

Efforts to obtain a response from the Police spokesperson for Imo State, Henry Okoye, proved unsuccessful as calls to him went unanswered.

GWG.ng reports that the Imo PDP chairman was assassinated just two weeks after the recent governorship election in the state.
