Gaza War Resumes As Israel-Hamas Ceasefire Ends

Israel ceasefire

Fighting has resumed in the Gaza Strip following the end of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that allowed the release of hostages captured by Hamas during the October 7 attack on Southern Israel.

GWG.ng reports that the ceasefire allowed the release of Palestinian prisoners and detainees held by Israel.

A CNN report quoted the Israeli military as saying that it has resumed combat operations against Hamas after the IDF accused the militant group of violating the truce agreement by firing toward Israel.

The military’s announcement came moments after a seven-day truce between Israel and Hamas for the release of civilian hostages expired with no indications the sides had agreed to extend the deal.

Egyptian and Qatari negotiators were working to extend the temporary and uneasy truce for an additional two days, Egypt said. The current deal expired at 7 a.m. local time (midnight ET).

Eight more hostages were released from Gaza and 30 Palestinians were freed from Israeli jails Thursday.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said he told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel needs to make further efforts to protect civilians in Gaza when Israel resumes its military campaign.

Besides the fact that the ceasefire in Gaza has come to an end, Hamas said attackers behind a Jerusalem bus stop shooting that killed at least three people Thursday were members of its military wing.
