Why Imo PDP Chairman, Ugwu Was Suspended – Secretary

The secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Imo State, Njaka Duruiheoma has given reasons why the party in the state suspended the state chairman of the party, Engr Charles Ugwu.

GWG.ng reports that he gave the explanation in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement indicated that Charles Ugwu, a former Minister of Commerce and Industry, was suspended by the PDP over alleged misconduct.

Duruiheoma disclosed that the zonal chairman of the party for the Okigwe zone, Chidi Dike, has taken over as the acting state chairman.

Ugwu’s suspension, according to the statement, followed a motion moved by the PDP Chairman of Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area and Chairman of all the PDP Chairmen in the state,  Emeka Alihe, which was seconded by the PDP Chairman of Owerri Municipal, Godspower Apollos and adopted by no fewer than 18 other LG chairmen as well as members of the State Executive Committee.

The statement detailing why the state chapter of the PDP suspended Charles Ugwu read:

” Emeka Alihe, in introducing the motion calling for the immediate suspension of Charles Ugwu from office, drew the State Executive Committee’s attention to the fact that he has it on good authority that since August 2023, Charles Ugwu has failed to summon a meeting of the State Working Committee contrary to the provisions of S. 21 (3) of the party’s Constitution.

“He also stated that Charles Ugwu, without any reason or justifiable reason failed to attend any of the thank you tours embarked upon by the governorship candidate of the party to the 27 LGs of Imo State including that of Owerri Municipal Council that was done at the state secretariat of this party contrary to S. 58(i) (e) of the party’s constitution notwithstanding that he was duly notified of the tour.

“He went on to draw the committee’s attention to the fact that Charles Ugwu, despite due information by the state campaign council, has failed to attend any of the Local Government campaign rallies embarked on so far by the party contrary to S. 58(i) (e) of the party constitution,” the PDP secretary said in explaining why Charles Ugwu was suspended.
