The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Kogi State governorship election, Senator Dino Melaye, has finally opened up on the alleged N3billion he had been widely speculated to have collected from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, for the election.

Speaking at a dinner organised in his honour by members of his campaign organization in Abuja, on Thursday Senator Dino Melaye also used the opportunity to speak on the lessons from the governorship election.

GWG.ng reports that Senator Melaye who was announced as third in the November 11 election has pledged not to contest the outcome despite his strong assertion of manipulation of the election.

Speaking on the allegation that he collected N2 billion from Dangote and N1 billion from Atiku, for the election, Senator Dino Melaye described the speculation as “fake news” being spread by those he described as “betrayers.”

On the lessons of the election, he said:

“One of the lessons is that the east now knows more than ever before, that they cannot become governor alone. You will have to collaborate with other zones to become governor.

“The second lesson is also for those of us from the west. That next time we should listen to the words of wisdom from our elders and not from commercialized characters who because of their individual and selfish interests created problems for us.

“Because at the end of the day, what our elders have been saying that this will be the worst (election) for us is eventually what happened,” Senator Dino Melaye said following the denial of the alleged Dangote, Atiku campaign donations.
