Prominent Senator Gives New Update On Akpabio Impeachment Plot
Prominent opposition lawmaker, Senator Kawu Sumaila has dismissed claims of an impeachment plot to remove Senator Godswill Akpabio as the president of the Senate saying that senators were more preoccupied with resolving issues such as insecurity bedeviling the nation.
Speaking in an interview with Trust TV, Senator Sumaila also expressed hope that the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP will prevail and retain Kano State in the case currently in the Supreme Court.
Against the background of claims that opposition lawmakers were plotting with disgruntled members of the All Progressives Congress, APC to remove Akpabio as Senate President, Sumaila said:
Though he claimed that the Senate President was not carrying the opposition along, he said that there was no plot to push for his removal.
“There was no time we decided to remove the Senate president; we are more concerned about the welfare of our people and the situation of Nigeria.
“Most of us came from an area where insecurity is the order of the day, so why would we waste our time on removing the Senate president?”
Asked if the opposition was satisfied with the activities of the Senate President, he said:
“Whether we are satisfied or not, there was no time we even tabled the removal of the Senate president. We are doing our legislative work as guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said in dismissing insinuations of an impeachment plot to remove Akpabio as Senate President.
