In the heels of the impeachment moves initiated by the Kogi State House of Assembly against the deputy governor of the state, Elder Simon Achuba, the All Progressive Congress (APC) on Thursday suspended him from the party.

The party cited alleged anti-party activities before, during and after the 2019 general elections for its action and also his alleged poor performance in office and opposition to the state government.

In recent weeks, the deputy governor had criticized Governor Yahaya Bello for bad governance, accusing his boss for being the perpetrator of violent activities in the state.

Announcing Achuba’s suspension, the APC State Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, in a press conference in Lokoja on Thursday revealed that the party has received several petitions from relevant stakeholders in Iyano ward of Ibaji local government area where the Deputy Governor hails from, alleging that the deputy governor openly worked for candidates of the opposition parties during the presidential, national and state assembly elections in the state.

Abdullahi Bello said that the State Working Committee took the decision after deliberating on the report of the disciplinary committee of the party in  Iyano ward and Ibaji Local Government Area, pending the time the deputy governor would respond to the letter that the party would serve him.

He, however, noted that the decision of the State Working Committee will be communicated to the APC National Working Committee in due course.

According to him, “As we are all aware , the All Progressives Congress does not condone acts of indiscipline , indiscretion and anti-party activities from any party member, no matter how highly placed.

“His series of reckless, damaging and unsubstantiated allegations against government of Kogi State was an action that constitutes a serious violation of Article 21A(ii), (v) and (vii) of the APC constitution, amount, amounting to acts of disloyalty and embarrassment to the party.”
