Mohbad Surfaces In U.S. Christmas Celebration (Photo)
In a heartwarming gesture during their Christmas celebration, a United States church paid tribute to the late Nigerian singer, Ileriouluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
A statue-like Father Christmas portrait of the talented artiste was erected, prompting netizens to reflect on his enduring impact.
This recognition follows a similar homage in October during Nigeria’s Independence Day celebrations in New York, where Mohbad was honored. The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Ambassador Lot Egogipa, highlighted this event during an interview, urging Nigerians in the U.S. to maintain hope for the country’s future.
Despite criticism over the timing of acknowledgment, as some noted Mohbad’s pleas for help prior to his untimely demise, the late singer’s fame posthumously skyrocketed. Notably, American rapper Meek Mill expressed appreciation for Nigerians rallying in support of Mohbad.
Remarkably, three of Mohbad’s songs secured spots in the Billboard Top 10, making him the first African artiste without a full album to achieve this feat. His ascent on the Billboard Hot 100, a highly competitive chart, brought renewed attention to his music and legacy.
GWG.ng reports that the controversy surrounding Mohbad’s sudden death and alleged links to fellow musician Naira Marley became the focus of discussion in a school in Rivers State as he was mentioned in an examination.
