An American man, recognized as the Washington DC Chef, took to social media on Friday to unveil an alleged scam involving Nigerian media personality Uti Nwachukwu.

The chef accused Uti of orchestrating a scam by creating a fake Instagram account that utilized the chef’s photos and identity. The purpose was to trick individuals into sending money in the form of Google Play gift cards.

Describing his encounter with the alleged impersonator, the American man recounted discovering the fake Instagram page and initiating a video call with the person behind it. Surprisingly, the call was answered, leading him to suspect Uti Nwachukwu’s direct involvement in the scam. The fake account contained many personal photos of Uti and was used to send friend requests to his contacts, accompanied by solicitations for money in what was alleged to be a scam.

Despite the accusations, reactions from netizens imply there might be more to the story. Some online commenters expressed skepticism about Uti Nwachukwu’s direct involvement, highlighting that celebrities often fall victim to their images and videos being misused by scammers.

One user, Emmofie, sympathized with the chef’s unfortunate experience but suggested that Uti himself might be a victim of identity theft.

Another commenter, Maverickhurt, proposed the possibility that the chef was shown a pre-recorded video of the Nigerian celebrity during the call, implying the scammer exploited Uti’s celebrity status to add credibility to the fraudulent activities.

Despite these varied reactions, the American man stood firm in his accusation, venting his frustration and presenting evidence on Twitter against Uti he claimed as being behind the scam.
