In a harrowing incident that unfolded on Sunday morning, December 17, 2023, an Enugu-bound flight operated by Ibom Air encountered a catastrophic situation when a female passenger reportedly tried to open the plane door mid-flight.

The alarming attempt to open the Ibom aircraft door was described as “terrifying” by eyewitness Alex Onyia as it caused distress among passengers and crew members. Onyia took to social media to share the unsettling experience, recounting how the woman seated in front of him, positioned near the emergency exit, made a shocking attempt to open the door mid-air as the Ibom Air flight made towards its destinaiton.

Swift and coordinated efforts from fellow passengers averted potential disaster as they managed to restrain the woman before any harm occurred. Eyewitnesses recalled the urgency and tension that permeated the cabin during the incident.

Upon questioning, the woman reportedly responded with a smile, claiming that she merely wanted to test whether the emergency exit door would open. The motive behind her actions remains unclear, leaving passengers and crew members puzzled.

In expressing his concern, Onyia emphasized the need for airlines to exercise caution in selecting passengers for critical seats, urging heightened scrutiny in the interest of passenger safety.
