Court orders two months Detention of ISIS Osase

A Lagos-based Italian, Mrs Floriana De Stefani is facing threats of imprisonment following a petition written against her for flouting the orders of a court that earlier jailed her over a property dispute in Ikoyi, Lagos.

De Stefani was convicted by Justice Dada on October 22, 2022 after she was dragged to court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC following complaints of appropriation of property belonging to Waterside Properties Ltd.

The EFCC had investigated her upon the claim that she confiscated and refused to pay rent to the owners of the property located at 14B Warring (Now known as Bayo Kuku) Road, Ikoyi.

Justice Mojisola Dada of a Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos had in a ruling ordered her to pay N50m in lieu of a three-year jail term and to handover the property to the original owners, Waterside Properties. She was expected to comply with the court judgment within three weeks or be taken into custody.

However, Waterside in a fresh petition dated December 18, 2023, averred that despite paying the N50m fine as ordered by the court Mrs. De Stefani has refused to vacate the property.

The company in the fresh petition deposed to the EFCC through her lawyers, Delphi Law Advisory affirmed thus:
“Instead of yielding possession to Our Client, the convict without any court order as a shield went ahead and put in new tenants on the premises and has gone about taunting Our Client’s officers about how she has senior law enforcement officers under her control and that the judgment convicting her is of no effect.

“What the convict, Mrs De Stefani, has done/is doing constitute fresh offences-falsely laying claim to Our Client’s property even after her conviction arising from the same conduct-and we humbly request that you use your good offices to not only remove her and/or her agents from the property but also set in motion her detention and prosecution accordingly.
