The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has vehemently refuted a report alleging his involvement in the illegal withdrawal of $6.3 million from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

In his refutal, the former top Buhari aide alleged an attempt to assassinate his character.

The report, published by an online newspaper, claimed a special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu uncovered the alleged theft weeks before the presidential election on February 8, 2023.

Mustapha, along with the embattled former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was accused of authorizing the cash removal under the guise of funding foreign election observer missions. Mustapha, in a strongly worded statement, labeled the accusations as “outrageous and unsubstantiated,” describing the article as a “malicious fabrication” aimed at assassinating his character.

He emphasized being unaware of the purported “Presidential Directive” cited in the report and asserted non-involvement in discussions or transactions related to payments for foreign election observers. Mustapha questioned the timing of the allegations, highlighting the sensitive pre-Christmas period as a deliberate attempt to exploit public sentiment.

Demanding a thorough and transparent investigation, he urged authorities to probe the source of the fabricated documents and expose those behind the “smear” campaign. Mustapha, emphasizing his commitment to integrity, welcomed legitimate investigations to shed light on the truth, vowing to defend his reputation vigorously.

His response stated, “I have nothing to hide and welcome any legitimate investigation that sheds light on the truth.” Mustapha emphasized upholding the integrity of public service and safeguarding the reputation of those who served the country with honor. He urged the Nigerian people to see through the orchestrated attack, recognizing it as a desperate attempt to silence a voice of reason and integrity.
