Oluwadolarz, a prominent Nigerian skit maker, has fervently defended his colleague Nasboi against public criticism from Yhemolee regarding Nasboi’s transition from comedy to music.

The focal point of the controversy revolves around Nasboi’s music track “Umbrella,” which Yhemolee disparaged during an interview on the show ‘Curiosity Made Me Ask,’ hosted by IsbaeU.

Yhemolee, a figure well-recognized in the nightlife industry, voiced his discomfort at witnessing the transformation of Nasboi from a comedian to a musical artiste.

This sentiment did not sit well with Oluwadolarz, who raised a valid question about the prevailing double standard ā€“ while artistes are celebrated for diversifying into skits, skit makers face criticism when they venture into the realm of music. He called for an end to the disrespect meted out to skit makers exploring their musical talents.

Nasboi, responding with indignation to Yhemolee’s comments, deemed them disrespectful and perceived them as an attempt to garner attention at his expense. Defending the merit of his craft, Nasboi highlighted the success of “Umbrella,” boasting over 20 million streams across various music platforms. Despite previous setbacks with Omotola Jalade’s record label, Nasboi remains resolute in his commitment to his music career, unveiling plans to release a new single in January 2024.

The online community’s reaction to the exchange between Nasboi and Yhemolee has been mixed, with some staunchly supporting Nasboi’s musical ventures, while others align with Yhemolee’s perspective. Notably, “Umbrella” has not only weathered the criticism but has gained considerable traction, even catching the attention of Don Jazzy, who participated in a TikTok challenge associated with the song. This incident highlights the dynamic nature of the entertainment industry and the diverse opinions surrounding creators as they navigate multiple facets of artistic expression.
