Tinubu In First Major Step Against Corruption, Suspends New Appointee
In a move some are interpreting as the first move move to wage a war against corruption, Presidnt Bola Tinubu on Tuesday ordered the immediate suspension of Ms Halima Shehu as the National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Program Agency following allegations of financial impropriety.
The suspension, prompted by concerns over financial irregularities, signifies a commitment to accountability, and Dr Akindele Egbuwalo, the National N-POWER Program Manager, steps in as the acting NC/CEO during the investigative period.
This swift action comes merely three months after Ms Halima Shehu’s Senate confirmation for the position. Known for her banking finesse and career wizardry, Shehu had previously led the show as the National Coordinator of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme, orchestrating the program’s digital makeover.
The suspension and investigation signal a pivotal moment in the agency’s leadership, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to transparency in managing social investment initiatives. As the inquiry unfolds, both stakeholders and the public await the resolution and insights into the alleged financial mismanagement.
GWG.ng reports that the suspension and the order for an investigation is bound to be welcomed as an indication of the readiness of President Tinubu to wage a war against corruption given questions that had been raised by his critics in the past.
