As part of giant steps taken to facilitate the digitization of international passport renewals, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, has disclosed that a passport renewal app will come into effect from January 8.

She disclosed this during a visit to her office by Dr Joe Abbah, Nigeria’s Country Director for Development Alternatives Inc, DAI on Tuesday.

In great delight, Dr Abah lapped up on the prospect of a Nigerian passport app.

He said:

“Tuesday afternoon, I was around the Nigeria headquarters area and decided to go and see the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju. I just gave my name and she agreed to see me. She said she knows me and is aware of my long campaign to improve passport administration.”

“I commended her efforts so far and gave her my best wishes. She immediately said that she had been getting unparalleled support from the Honourable Minister of Interior.

“We discussed their plans o minimize human contact in passport processing from next week and a forthcoming innovation to allow virtual capture. I asked how that would work and she said I should look forward to an app that could be used for renewals.”

The Comptroller General said: “You sometimes criticize us but you always proffer solutions. Please don’t relent. It improves us.”

Some netizens aired their responses to this disclosure via the X app.

GidiBwoi said of the Nigerian passport app:

“It will be nice. Nigeria Immigration App. Download enter details, capture with your phone and NIN, Pay online. Get collection date, go collect it by yourself or pay for delivery. Good stuff. First of it kind.”

Oluwaseyi said,

“The key word here is “You sometimes criticize us but you always proffer solutions. Please don’t relent. It improves us.”

UgoBenz said, “Good job boss. I’m hoping that your sustained campaign for a better passport admin/service delivery bears an enduring result soon. That of the driving licence paid off quicker, the the bottlenecking of the passport admin system seems more herculean due to the many interests involved and the huge sums they make off the systemic inefficiency.”
