Reports circulating on social media suggesting the release from prison of Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, who was sentenced to 16 years for child defilement have stirred controversy. Baba Ijesha faced legal proceedings starting from April 22, 2021, and was convicted on July 14, 2022, for offenses including indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.

The trial, presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo at the Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court in Ikeja, resulted in varying prison terms for different counts, as he was acquitted on some charges. Recent videos on social media have hinted at Baba Ijesha’s supposed release, with one featuring a woman, believed to be his sister, expressing gratitude to God for avoiding the anticipated shame.
