Chioma Erisco 1million

Nigerians have raised N1m to support Chioma Okoli in her legal battle  against Erisco Ltd, the tomatoes producing company that is prosecuting her for negatively reviewing its product.

The disclosure was made known by her legal counsel, inibehe Effiong.

Making this known via his X account, he said,

“In the spirit of transparency, the balance on the bank account of Chioma Okoli as at this morning is N1,022,645.70CR.

This bank account used for her Legal Defense Fund was newly opened by Chioma specifically for this purpose in line with my recommendation to ensure transparency.

“The fact that Nigerians have donated a million Naira in less than 16 hours since we launched the fundraising to support her cause is yet another reminder that we can resist the oppressive moneybags when we are united by a common purpose.

Effiong emphasized that Chioma needs much more support but she is full of gratitude for the donations made so far.

Earlier, Effiong revealed, “At  the instance of Mrs. Chioma Edoka Okoli and her husband and based on inquiries from members of the public on how they can support Chioma’s cause, we are constrained to launch a Legal Defense Fund campaign to enable us prosecute and defend the three lawsuits arising from the review made by Chioma on Facebook on the Nagiko Tomato Mix manufactured by Erisco Foods Limited.”

Recall that in September 2023, Chioma made a review on her Facebook account on the sugar quantity in the tomato product after she purchased it from the market. She was later arrested and detained by the IGP Monitoring Unit.

Effiong noted, “This fundraising campaign has become imperative given the dimension that the case(s) has assumed.

“Chioma’s current residence is no longer safe for her and her family. She recently became pregnant and also has little children to cater for. It is important to state that her residential address was publicized in the media by the CEO of Erisco Foods Limited. The siege laid on her house on the 9th of January, 2024 demands that she relocates to a more secured environment.

‘Thus, part of the legal defence fund will be used to immediately secure a new accommodation for Chioma and her family”.
