Tunji-Ojo Off your mic

Friends of the embattled minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo were on Wednesday morning kicking as new controversy over his links with the off-your-mic brouhaha involving Senator Godswill Akpabio and the 9th National Assembly again erupted to further blight the star boy image of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.

GWG.ng reports that the minister became embattled after a company he is believed to have substantial shares in, New Planet Projects Ltd emerged to have won a N438 million contract from the scandal ridden Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs headed by the now-suspended Dr Betta Edu.

Tunji-Ojo had said that he resigned his position as a director in the company five years ago and flaunted his letter to the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC to prove his ethical grace.

However, he has kept mum on the directorship of his wife in the company.

Meanwhile, GWG.ng reports that Tunji-Ojo had emerged as about the most effective in the 48-man cabinet of President Bola Tinubu with his yeoman job of clearing the decades-long rot in the Nigerian Immigration Service and automation in the processing of Nigerian passports.

However, the consultancy contract awarded a company his family has serious interest in erupted to smear his star boy reputation in the Tinubu administration.

That image was on Wednesday morning being further soiled with the revelation that he was the chairman of the Niger Delta Development Committee, NDDC of the House of Representatives mentioned by Senator Akpabio as having knowledge of contracts dispensed to members of the House during that infamous hearing in 2020.

It would be recalled that as Akpabio elaborated on the contract racketeering among the lawmakers, the deputy chairman of the committee and other members chorused ‘off your mic’ a phrase that has emerged as symbolic of corrupt dealings.

The new revelations were trending on X on Wednesday morning with many expressing disappointment in the new disclosures as concerning Tunji-Ojo.

However, there were yet some who still came to the defence of the Tunji-Ojo despite the off-your-mic brouhaha.

GWG.ng gathered some of the reactions.
