Jang Denounces Appeal Court Rulings Removing Plateau Lawmakers As A Grave Miscarriage Of Justice

Former Plateau State governor, Jonah Jang has strongly criticized recent Appeal Court judgments that led to the removal of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers from the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly.

He described the actions of the Appeal Court as a “miscarriage of justice of a great proportion.”

Jang, who once represented Plateau North in the Senate, expressed deep concern, stating that the judgments robbed the people of their rightfully elected representatives.

GWG.ng reports that the appeal court unseated specific PDP legislators in Plateau State due to what it said was their party’s failure to comply with court orders for lawful congresses.

Governor Caleb Mutfwang, also from the PDP, however, retained his position after the Supreme Court upturned the assertions of the Court of Appeal on the issue.

Reacting to Mutfwang’s legal victory, Jang revealed that the Plateau State government and the PDP had submitted a petition to the National Judicial Council (NJC) seeking a comprehensive review of all judgments from the Court of Appeal affecting elected officials in the state.

Jang expressed strong disapproval of the Appeal Court’s decisions, particularly regarding those declared winners, stating that allowing non-elected individuals to remain as legislators sets an abnormal precedent. He emphasized the imperative to restore the people’s true representatives and their mandate, pledging ongoing support for Governor Mutfwang’s administration, which, within eight months, accomplished what the previous eight-year tenure could not.

Advocating for unity among Plateau State residents, Jang conveyed optimism that the people would emerge resilient. He characterized the Supreme Court’s validation of the governor’s victory as a triumphant moment for democracy, signaling a defeat against anti-democratic forces. Jang reflected on past attempts by such forces to manipulate public will and expressed gratitude for the justices’ steadfastness in upholding the Rule of Law, reinforcing the judiciary’s role as the common man’s last hope. In conclusion, Jang appreciated the justices for resisting manipulation, preventing potential chaos, and thwarting setbacks for the state.
