The abductors of the Lagos State chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Philip Aivoji, have made contact with the family, demanding a ransom of N200 million.

Reports indicate that another member of the Lagos State PDP Executive Committee, who managed to escape from the kidnappers, is currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital.

In response to the chairman’s abduction, the Lagos State chapter of the PDP has urgently called on security agencies and the governments of Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States to intervene promptly and secure Hon. Aivoji’s release. The party expressed its deep concern over the prevalence of kidnapping in the country and criticized the government’s perceived inability to address this menace effectively.

Hon Hakeem Amode, the State Publicity Secretary, emphasized the urgency of decisive actions against kidnapping, citing Aivoji’s abduction as a stark reminder of the need for concerted efforts from the government and stakeholders to eradicate this growing threat.

In a statement, Amode highlighted the violent nature of Aivoji’s abduction, stressing that his current whereabouts and any communication from the abductors remain unknown. The PDP appealed to the governments of Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, as well as security agencies, to expedite efforts to ensure Aivoji’s safe return to his family and well-wishers.

The party remains optimistic that increased efforts from security agencies can lead to Aivoji’s rescue from the clutches of these criminals, and it called on the public to support initiatives aimed at putting an end to the persistent threat to innocent lives posed by kidnapping.
