AFCON: How Nigeria Silenced Noisy Neighbour, Cameroon 2-0

Published

on

Nigeria dispatched Cameroon out of the ongoing AFCON competition by 2-0 in a tension packed match at Abidjan late on Saturday.

GWG.ng reports that Nigeria showed early determination of quieting their noisome eastern neighbour when Ajayi in the ninth minute appeared to have scored the first goal but it was eventually ruled ineligible.

However, Lookman opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 36th minute after he capitalized on a blunder from the Cameroonian side after African footballer of the year, Osimhen stole the ball from a defender.

Nigeria’s second goal was scored in the 90th minute again by Lookman.

GWG.ng reports that the victory over Cameroon saw Nigeria consolidate its defensive record as the team has not conceded a goal in its last three matches and in the Saturday match the Lions even failed to record a shot on target.

With this victory, Nigeria is now set to confront the Angolans who earlier sent their Namibian neighbours packing.

Though African Footballer of the Year did not record a goal in the match against Cameroonn, he was, however, the most potent threat against the Cameroonians who found it difficult containing his pace.

The victory by Nigeria is bound to be badly received by Cameroon as it is the second straight time that the Lions are being sent away from AFCON by the Eagles.
