Controversy over an alleged plot to deny Governor Godwin Obaseki’s alleged preferred People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo an opportunity to contest the Edo State governorship ticket of the party deepened on Tuesday after he was alleged to have been involved in a face-off with fellow aspirants.

Fellow aspirants were said to have raised objections to a waiver for the corporate lawyer on the ground that he has never voted in the state.

The incident happened at the Wadata Plaza national headquarters of the PDP and venue of the screening exercise of governorship aspirants for the election coming in September this year.

According to the Sun, trouble started for Asue when all aspirants under the platform of the party, forced him out  for being allegedly rude to the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu.

According to the Sun, Ighodalo stormed out at the apparent gang-up of other aspirants against him but subsequently returned for his screening before the PDP screening committee.

Following this command, Mr. Ighodalo stormed out”.

Meanwhile, the PDP was said to have ignored sublime threat of the other aspirants as it went ahead to screen and issue Ighodalo a waiver that has now enabled him to stand as an aspirant for the party’s governorship ticket.

Ighodalo alongside other aspirants including Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, Comrade Shaibu among others were screened and issued certificate of clearance to partake in the exercise.
