It’s A Crime To Pay Ransom To Kidnappers, Police Warn (Video)
The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has reminded Nigerians that paying ransom is a criminal offence in Nigeria.
The Force PRO officer stated this while speaking on the recent abductions in Ekiti State in an interview with Channels TV on Thursday.
“Paying ransom is criminal in Nigeria according to the provisions of our law. But the problem we have in most cases is that families of abducted individuals don’t carry security operatives along.
“They get scared because kidnappers always work on their psyche. ‘Don’t tell the security agents! Don’t tell the police! If you do, they are going to kill your relation’.
“We have to understand the dimensions of kidnapping. Kidnappers will take kidnapping as a business. They will kidnap and negotiate and get money. We got to a stage where they kidnapped, got money and killed the victim” he said.
