In a revelation that stirred both curiosity and controversy, Yoruba actor Ebun Oloyede, popularly known as Olaiya Igwe, shed light on the reasons behind his unconventional act of going naked to pray for the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in anticipation of the 2023 general election. The actor, recognized for his unique approach, had shared a viral video on Instagram where he was seen performing the ritual at a beach in Lagos.
In a recent Instagram video, Olaiya Igwe took a moment to address those who found his beachside prayer session unsettling, expressing regret for any offense caused. He sought to clarify that his actions were not arbitrary but rooted in profound revelations he had received.
Explaining the motivation behind his unusual prayer approach, Olaiya Igwe disclosed that Tinubu had been a pillar of support during his battle with Nephrolithiasis, commonly known as kidney stones. Speaking passionately in his native Yoruba language, the actor acknowledged the anticipated criticism but stood firm in his conviction to follow the divine guidance he received.
In his heartfelt words, “Because of things he has done for me, health-wise, and I received a revelation to pray for him at the beach, which I did. I was criticized and cursed after I did but I didn’t care.”
Despite the inevitable backlash, Olaiya Igwe emphasized that he harbored no ill feelings towards Tinubu and remained unperturbed by the criticism. He acknowledged that his actions might have surprised many, especially those aligned with Tinubu’s rival parties, yet he stood by his decision with unwavering conviction.
