Jimmy Odukoya, a former Nollywood actor who has transitioned into a clergyman, sparked a lively reaction online on Thursday by indulging in a playful tease aimed at South Africans with their beloved song “Water” by Tyla.

The excitement stemmed from the Wednesday victory of the Super Eagles over South Africa in the semi-finals. Although the game ended in a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes, the Super Eagles secured a hard-fought win with a 4-2 victory on penalties.

In a gesture of consolation towards South Africans, Jimmy crafted his version of Tyla’s “Water” dedicated to them. Despite acknowledging South Africa’s commendable performance, Jimmy emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering determination to clinch the cup. He quipped that if there was any comfort for their defeat, it might be found in what he coined as “Grammy Water,” all while assuring them of his prayers.

Directing his message to fellow Nigerians, Jimmy expressed appreciation for South Africa’s efforts on the field but made it clear that Nigeria’s sights were firmly set on claiming the cup. With confidence, he declared, “God won’t let us down because we won’t settle for anything less.”

The playful banter extended to the comments section, where celebrities joined in on the conversation. Deyemi Okanlawon injected humor by jokingly stating, “Baba remixed a South African song! Just because they beat us at the Grammys, we’ll beat them at AFCON.”

Meanwhile, former beauty queen Anna Ebiere playfully urged for louder cheers, suggesting that South Africans “didn’t hear well” and encouraging Nigerians to “scream louder” in support of their team.

Omowunmi Dada shared Jimmy’s confidence in Nigeria’s victory, expressing her belief that “God will not let us down” because the team wouldn’t settle for anything less. Allwell Ademola appreciated Jimmy’s rendition of the song, finding amusement in the “Grammy water” reference and adding her voice to the playful exchange.

The lighthearted interaction among celebrities reflected the camaraderie and excitement surrounding the AFCON tournament, as fans eagerly anticipated the outcome and rallied behind their respective teams.
