Tinubu Begs NLC, TUC To Shelve Strike Notice

President Bola Tinubu has pleaded with the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC),  to lift its threat of a strike action in 14 days.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who made the appeal while speaking to newsmen in Abuja, emphasized that it was not in the Federal Government’s interest for the NLC and TUC to embark on the strike.

Recall that on February 8, the NLC and TUC issued a 14-day ultimatum to the federal government to address the hardship confronting Nigerians. 

In response, the minister said the Federal Government will not draw back on the promises made to the workers.

Idris said, “Well, we appeal to Labour to always see reason with the government. It is not in the government’s interest for Labour to continue to go on strike.

“I think the government keeps its promises. If there are other things that they (NLC, TUC) think they are concerned about, I think that they will sit down with the government and the government is ever ready to listen to Labour so that we can have an amicable resolution to all these.”

He further appealed to NLC, “Let them come again, around the table to continue to have engagements and conversations around whatever gray areas they think they have in some of these agreements that have already been signed.”
