President Bola Tinubu was on Tuesday afternoon receiving the AFCON 23 silver cladded Super Eagles to a reception in the Presidential Villa but with many Nigerians concerned over the cyberbullying of one of the team’s prominent players, Alex Iwobi.

GWG.ng reports that the players and officials returned earlier on Tuesday morning to the country and were received by a moderate crowd consisting mostly of airport workers and officials of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF.

At the airport, Alex Iwobi who has been the subject of cyberbullying over his alleged less than impressive performance in the final match against Ivory Coast was sullen. He refused to lift his head as the cameras approached and did not grant any interviews unlike some of the other players.

However, the other Super Eagles players have reacted sharply to the attack on Iwobi.

“We went together, we performed together and I think everyone should be proud of the work we did together and I think we are going to be better,” Trost-Ekong, the player of the tournament said on arrival earlier this morning.

NFF president, Ibarhim Gusau also saw it as a good beginning for his tenure at the NFF saying:

“everyone is happy despite the fact that we were not able to win the trophy.”

GWG.ng reports that President Tinubu who has been unwavering in his support for the team was on Tuesday afternoon set to receive the team to a reception in the Presidential Villa with speculations on the prospects of Iwobi appearing having not arrived with the team in the villa.

The player had earlier removed all his pictures in the Super Eagles uniform from his Instagram Page.

CORRECTION: GWG.ng had earlier reported absence Iwobi at the villa for the reception, but we now understand that he subsequently made an apperance.
